Maui Events:
The Maui Brewer's Festival
The Maui Brewer's Festival is one of those Maui events that is a fairly recent addition to the island. The Maui Brewing Company and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center first partnered to bring us this event in 2009. This year, it will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the MACC Amphitheater and Pavilion.
But before I go on, I have to make a confession.
I am the worst person possible to write about a beer festival.
Why?
Well, I hate to say it, but I don't like beer. Maybe I have defective taste buds...maybe I have a gene mutation... I really don't know...
But, despite my potentially defective taste buds that are unable to appreciate a good beer, this sounded like a fun event for beer aficionados and I wanted to tell you about it!
Clearly, I won't be going to this festival and giving you a review any time soon (unless my defective taste buds get fixed), but I figured the least I could do is give you a quick summary of what this festival is about. So here goes...
The festival features handcrafted beers from breweries in Hawaii and the mainland. There will also be appetizers and desserts from various Maui restaurants, and live entertainment.
The festival isn't free - they have to cover the cost of all of those appetizers and beers somehow, right? For 2011, if you buy your tickets in advance, you can purchase a general admission for $45, or a "Happy Hour Package" for $75.
For 2011, the General Admission includes eight 4 oz. beer samples, a commemorative mug, appetizers, desserts, and event parking. The "Happy Hour Package" includes everything in the General Admission, plus early entry to the festival for beer tasting with the brewmasters/industry representatives, as well as a special gift. You must be of legal drinking age to attend the Maui Brewer's Festival.
Getting There
The festival is held at Maui Arts and Cultural Center in Kahului at 1 Cameron Way. It's an outdoor festival, so dress accordingly!
